How to Store Peptides After Reconstitution

Proper storage after reconstitution is crucial for maintaining peptide potency and research validity. Reconstituted peptides are far more fragile than their lyophilized form, making correct storage protocols essential for any serious research program.

Immediate Storage Requirements

After reconstituting with bacteriostatic water, peptides should be placed in the refrigerator within 10 minutes. The ideal temperature range is 2-8°C (36-46°F). Standard household refrigerators typically maintain 3-5°C, which is perfect.

Refrigeration Guidelines

Store reconstituted vials upright to minimize surface contact with the rubber stopper. Keep vials away from the refrigerator door (temperature fluctuates with opening). The back of a middle shelf provides the most stable temperature. Protect from light by keeping vials in their original box or wrapping in aluminum foil.

How Long Do Reconstituted Peptides Last?

When properly stored at 2-8°C with bacteriostatic water, most research peptides maintain acceptable stability for 3-4 weeks. However, potency begins declining from day one. For maximum accuracy in research, use reconstituted peptides within 2 weeks when possible.

Freezing Reconstituted Peptides

Generally, do NOT freeze reconstituted peptides. Ice crystal formation during freezing can mechanically damage peptide bonds and cause aggregation. However, unreconstituted (lyophilized) peptides can be stored frozen at -20°C for extended periods.

Signs of Degradation

Watch for these warning signs: cloudy or turbid solution (was previously clear), visible particles or precipitate, unusual color changes, or loss of expected research activity. If any of these appear, discard the vial and reconstitute a fresh one.

Long-Term Storage Strategy

For researchers with multiple vials, keep unused vials in lyophilized form at -20°C and only reconstitute what you need for the current research period. This maximizes overall shelf life and ensures fresh peptide for each research phase.
